Clusters are groups of houses that occur near a restricted resource such as a mine or logging site. Retail stores often occupy some larger buildings within the clusters. In many cases, the houses and/or commercial buildings are owned by the industrial, logging, or mining or company that developed the resource. These company towns may be named for the resource (Tin City, Leadville) or a relative of the owner (Edith, Smithville).
